"Can the formal process, the formal educational institutions, adapt fast enough to AI? I don't know. They haven't adapted very fast in the past. But what I'm suggesting is that this doesn't matter because the learning's going to happen outside of the school."
I don't think our institutions can adapt fast enough, and adaptation/learning/teaching aren't the central purposes of academic institutions. I think they'll be sidelined, overtaken, and replaced (for multiple reasons). AI might have a central role in that replacement.
I do think there is an opportunity for the right kind of innovative educational institution to pioneer the AI teaching/learning space and in the process help drive down the costs of education. That would be particularly important for high education where the costs are getting beyond what many many people can now pay.
Great place to start, the possibility of human aligned “little AI” combined with decentralized green power!
After reading this, I feel like I just took a “Future Mirror” class - part history, part future, part reasoning.
Kevin Kelly is one of my heroes. Thanks so much for sharing his vision!
